A Sneak Peak at Working in the Beauty Business!

Working in the educational part of the beauty industry is rewarding in more than one way. I have a front row seat to the latest trends in hair, makeup, nails, skin, and even barbering! I’m able to gain experience in business operations by working closely with our directors. One of my favorite duties is attending high school career fairs as a representative of the school. Upon attending a career fair, I look for prospective students who have a passion for all things beauty and want to build a successful career in this industry. Our educators and administrative staff are close-knit yet come from all walks of life to deliver the most unique education for our students. I’ve come to...

Good Luck Grads!

Graduation is just around the corner, and as a PB graduate (class of ’08!) I always take a moment at this time of year to reflect on my experience at PB and what the road to becoming a cosmetologist meant to me. Completing the cosmetology program represented the achievement of a major life goal, and knowing I’d be able to pursue a career I had a passion for was truly exciting. Still, the journey definitely came with a few bumps in the road. Logging 1200 hours of everything from chemistry to anatomy, in addition to all the hands-on cutting and styling, was anything but easy. As your time here comes to an end, it is so important to acknowledge all of your hard work and everything it...

Star Student, Rayven Mosley

Rayven is 23 years old and enrolled in the part-time Cosmetology Program with Mr. Stephen Scull as her instructor. Your educational background? I graduated from Riverside High School in New Jersey. I began my Cosmetology training at PB in September 2016.   Why did you choose cosmetology as a career? I have always loved doing hair since I was supper little! I always practiced on my dolls and on my aunt’s old mannequin heads.   What is your beauty weapon of choice and why? My beauty weapon of choice would be a curling iron because I love curling and being able to do things with the curls.   Where do you see yourself in this industry in five years?...

Mutter Museum Field Trip

PB’s junior cosmetology students learn an array of subjects during their time as a cosmetology student. Anatomy and physiology are some of the most difficult of the theory subjects. To help students have a better understanding, teachers and students take a field trip to Philadelphia to visit the Mutter Museum. The Mutter Museum is a medical museum that contains a collection of medical oddities, anatomical and pathological specimens, wax models and antique medical equipment.  Here, the students get real-life visuals of what they are studying in their textbooks. The Mutter Museum is found on 22nd Street between Chestnut and Market Street. It houses some amazing discoveries.  Without...

A Haircut Experience with Isaac Herder

I recently had the awesome experience of having Isaac Herder from Lotus Salon in Marlton, NJ cut my hair. Isaac is a 1997 graduate of PB Cosmetology Education Centre’s Cosmetology Program. Isaac was recognized in 2014 as “Alumni of the Year” for his advanced sculpting techniques and women’s hair extensions. It’s not very often that I would refer to a haircut as an experience but that is exactly how I felt watching and feeling Isaac cut my hair. Being a licensed Cosmetologist myself helps me to be respectful of his craft. Isaac and I had an understanding that he could create something new for me and I would be his blank canvas. Watching Isaac sculpt each strand of hair was like...
