The One Face Mask You’ll Want This Winter

The One Face Mask You'll Want This Winter Shana Renzi, senior skin care student Let’s be honest, there is a ton of buzz about face masks – from sheet masks to clay masks to masks with glitter to ones that change colors.  It’s all about the mask right now! While some of these are a lot of fun, how do we know which ones will help repair and protect our skin during the dry, cold months?   First, let’s remember that our skin is pretty much always prone to free radical damage (a reactive atom that has an unpaired electron, so it steals an electron from our skins’ healthy atoms – how dare it!), which can cause fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.  With the severe...

The Perfect Holiday Red Lip

‘Tis the season of holiday parties, festive gatherings, and glitz and glam! Nothing screams "holiday party" quite like the perfect holiday red lip. With the cold and windy weather of December, a bold, red lip can be intimidating, especially when our lips are dry, cracked, and chapped. Avoid a glam disaster with our tips to rock the perfect holiday red lip!   Exfoliate your lips daily. You'll want a smooth, hydrated base on which to apply your lipstick. Prep your lips for a bold color with lip exfoliator such as a sugar scrub. If you don’t have sugar scrub, you can make your own or use a toothbrush to exfoliate! After brushing your teeth, clean your brush and gently...

With results lasting anywhere from four to six weeks, it is no wonder why waxing is the preferred method of hair removal, (and the easiest and quickest way to make money in the industry!) If you’re new to the world of waxing, you may not know what to look for when choosing between hard and soft wax, where to schedule your first service, and how to calm...

New Jersey Fights for Fairness of Natural Hair Braiders

It has been an uphill battle for natural hair braiders for the past six months as they have worked with lawmakers to pass a bill which would exempt them from cosmetology licensing laws. Natural hair braiders specialize in braiding simply with their hands and a comb, and have recently been required to attend 1,200 hours of cosmetology school to obtain a license that would cost them well around $17,000. The issue, however, is that in none of the 1,200-hour curriculum is hair braiding covered. In May, a natural hair braider from Gloucester Township urged lawmakers to pass a bill which would eliminate training and save the braiders major bucks. Big news for these hair braiders came about...
