Extend the Life of Your Spray Tan
Follow these tips to prolong your tan and achieve a healthy looking artificial glow.
A spray tan is the best accessory to any outfit, and with prom and wedding season quickly approaching it’s easy to find any excuse to get a glow. Spray tans are the easiest and safest way to achieve the bronze look you are craving. Artificial tans look their best for about a week, however you can extend the life of your spray tan with the tips below and keep your skin looking sunny, moisturized and fresh.
How many days before an event should I book my spray tan?
It’s important to give yourself some time before the event to let your tan develop. It is recommended to schedule your tan two days before the event. After you get your spray tan, you will need to let it develop anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. During this process, you will look very dark. This is caused by the cosmetic bronzer and DHA’s in the sunless tan. DHA’s leave a brown residue on the skin, mimicking a real tan. Do not worry; the cosmetic bronzer added to the spray will wash off in the shower. So on the flip side, don’t fret when you see your tan washing down the drain. If you waited the proper amount of time, the tan has already developed onto your skin. Tip: Get your tan in the evening so you can let the tan develop overnight and shower in the morning before school or work.
Are Sunless Tans safe on my skin?
Yes. At PB, we use Norvell’s Sunless Tan Solution. Norvell’s spray tans are non-toxic, making them safe on everyone. DHA’s in the sunless tanner mimic a tan, and do not effect or damage the melanin in the skin whatsoever. A common question asked is whether spray tans are safe for pregnant women. Norvell’s solution is Paraben-free, Gluten-free, Sulfate-free, Nut-allergen free, Propylene Glycol-free, Phthalates-free, and Synthetic fragrance-free making it safe on expectant mothers. It is still important to consult your physician before starting anything new. For more information on Norvell Sunless Tans, visit www.norvelltanning.com.
How should I prep my skin before my spray tan?
Come to your appointment with bare and fresh skin. Take off all makeup and make sure not to apply any lotion or deodorant. It is important to exfoliate and moisturize your body before a spray tan. The day before your appointment, shave, exfoliate and apply a deep moisturizing lotion from head to toe. These steps will help ensure your tan comes out evenly. Tip: Get your manicure and pedicure done prior to a spray tan to avoid patchiness from exfoliation or lotions.
What steps can I take to make my tan last longer?
Moisturizing daily is the best way to achieve an even, long-lasting glow. After every shower, apply a scent free, rich lotion all over your body. Focus on the dryer parts of your body, such as your ankles, knees, elbows and hands. Your tan is bound to fade eventually, but this step will help the color to fade evenly. To help create a seamless transition between tans, try Norvell’s Sunless Color Extender Prolong.
Not everyone’s skin is the same; some people sweat more than others which will cause the tan to become patchy and lose color. Knowing this, try to avoid sweating if you want your tan to last more than a week. If you must workout, wear loose fitting clothes to avoid your tan rubbing off. Tip: Sleeping in loose clothes with a fan on will help.
